Ties - Budapest Dance Theatre

Ties - Budapest Dance Theatre

I have long wanted to find my way in the maze of self-knowledge, or at least to find meaning for my actions and reactions... because these are automatic answers ingrained in us from long ago. Over generations, we reconstruct these ingrained patterns, reliving them over and over again, with only slight changes...

It is worth using these patterns as a starting point, unravelling and finally putting down our transgenerational packages.

In my new piece, I reflect on the mystery of the interconnectedness of souls, the invisible thread that binds people together and creates a tangled web between them, intangible and yet so strong that from time to time it pulls them together like a magnet. This connection does not allow them to break this tie between souls, even if their destiny takes a different direction, because the past defines and shapes us all and is present in the form of memories.

How are we chosen for each other? How do we take a liking to one another in a way that allows us to suddenly enter each other’s lives and become acquaintances, friends, or lovers? Are time, space, and interest the most important, or is there some invisible wire that pulls us together and then can’t let go? The connection, the bond that binds you together for a lifetime or even longer... You know that annoying scene in a film when the man and woman look back at just the wrong time and so their relationship falls apart?! Could that just be a coincidence?! I think we control everything with our desires, our thoughts, our actions, our forgiveness, and our patience...

So in my film, they look back at each other at just the right moment...

Our offer

“Rasa” is a Sanskrit word meaning “taste”.The word is used by Indian theatre aesthetics to define the experience that the spectator has during a performance. Just as there are many types of rasa, there can also be a wide variety of performance types. Today’s Indian classical dances all have ancient roots, traces of which can still be found in today’s performance styles.

In Lutte of Birds, a sense of the soaring of birds seeps through the original concept of Lutte, creating a new and exciting dynamic fusion between the themes of struggle and freedom familiar from Frenak. “We keep others on a leash and pet them as long as they serve us, but the moment they want to move around even a little bit, the moment they want to go, we pull them back,” Frenák describes the violent, power-seeking attitude that appears in Lutte and that has haunted our world for centuries.

The Fitos Dezső Dance Company is careful to regularly stage dance theatre performances that consider the authentic transmission of folklore and the cultures of various historical Hungarian regions as their primary goal. Transylvania Express is a selection of Transylvanian dances and music. With this performance, we want to convey the message that traditional culture lives on in all of us who believe in the value of keeping tradition alive—because tradition defines our future!
