A Car Man, bár az eredeti műhöz csak lazán kötődik,klasszikus zene történetének legelragadóbb és legfülbemászóbb dallamait hozza el a színpadra, Terry Davies karmester briliáns vezetésével. A jól ismert 19. századi cigarettagyár helyett ezúttal egy piszkos garázsokba és egy lepukkant étterembe kerül át a történet, a 60-as évek Amerikájának egy névtelen kisvárosába, amelynek álmokkal és szenvedélyekkel teli világát fenekestül felforgatja egy jóképű idegen érkezése. A történet szereplői vágytól és heves érzelmektől fűtve a önzés, árulás és bosszú körforgásába hajszolják magukat. The inspiring influence of the exciting, ever-popular South American musical rhythms and their non-traditional use has long been present in Tamás Topolánszky’s choreographic approach. This new production uses original melodies and Hungarian-language works by Hungarian composers, with an exciting combination of music written for the production.
Rhapsody as a genre is characterized by caprice and the passionate undulation of emotion, thoughts, and the freedom of expression. Hungarian Rhapsody incorporates all of the peculiarities of thegenre, relying on tradition, and drawing inspiration from it, to create a special and unique dance rhapsody. The colorful diversity of the Hungarian peasant traditions appear in dynamically alternating images – the acrobatics of the male dances, the poetry of the female dances, and the virtuosity of the couples’ dances. The most beautiful melodies of folk culture surface at times as dance accompaniments, or as whimsical solos, and at other times as tempestuous orchestral play.
