Partium - Duna Art Ensemble

Partium - Duna Art Ensemble

Located between present-day Hungary and Transylvania, Partium is a wonderful region rich in culture and colour. Its geographical boundaries changed frequently through the storms of history, making it difficult to determine the exact area of the original Partium.  more

The present-day Partium in its current sense includes the counties of Máramaros, Szilágy, Szatmár, Bihar, Arad, and Temes. Its ethnic map is very diverse, with a predominantly Hungarian, Romanian, and Gypsy population, though it is also home to Slovaks, Bulgarians, Serbs, and Croats.

In addition to its rural traditions, the intellectual life of its cities has also left a significant mark, which in turn has had a major influence on our traditional culture and history.

Partium is rich in celebrities, among others: Endre Ady, Domokos Szilágyi, Margit Kaffka, János Arany, Ferenc Kölcsey, Árpád Tóth, Béla Bartók, Tamás Bakócz, and János Irinyi.

All of this incredibly exciting heritage inspired the artists to talk about their urban and peasant backgrounds, the specific cultural diversity of the region, and the relationship between Hungary and Partium, touching on the identity issues of the people of Partium.

The performance will include Hungarian dances from Sárrét and Szilágyság, Romanian dances from Keményfok, Romanian and Gypsy dances from Nadab, Gypsy dances from Mácsa, Bulgarian dances from Vinga, Hutsul Máramaros dances from Vipcse, and Slovak dances and songs from Nagylak and Arad. In addition, poems by Endre Ady, János Arany, Domokos Szilágyi, Jenő Dsida, and Árpád Tóth will be performed by Ödön Rubold, Mari Jászai Award-winning theatre artist and Artist of Merit.

Performed by the Duna Art Ensemble and the Göncöl Orchestra.

Our offer

EXISTENCE is a tango dance theatre work that follows along the journey of human life—from the drifting impetus of youth to the quiet insight of old age. This journey is born in the tango, in the intimacy of the embrace, through the deep connection between the soul and the body.

Egy lehunyt szemű Buddha szobor, a nó-színpadra alászálló istennő, a Szent Anna-tó mellett kiásásra váró lovak, a Louvre egyik termében féltve őrzött milói Vénusz, és hangok, amelyek a föld alól szólnak hozzánk…

The most renowned ensemble in Slovakia – the Slovak DanceTheatre (SDT) – whose productions have been presented worldwide from New York to Tokyo, is set to appear in Budapest for the very first time with the premiere of itslatest production, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
